Rashad ‘Tumbling Dice’ Smith

w/ Jay Electronica, D Prosper and Peter Rosenberg

Hip-Hop is dead proclaimed a Queen’s philosopher – and it was enough to wake many from their Pop-Hop nap. At this point, the argument is old, but it’s worth noting that former thieves have not stopped striking out against sampling and the soul of the music continues to be stripped away. With the lost of the soul, comes a lost of history – the breaks. That being said, this man, Rashad “Tumblin’ Dice” Smith maintains the foundation. If you don’t know him (or what he’s talking about), then you’re not a part of the solution. Get a late pass.

Timeless III of IV

March 18, 2009 · 2 Comments

March 15th marked the date that the prolific Arthur Verocai would make his Los Angeles debut performance more than 35 years after the release of his now impossible to find (don’t stress, Luv N’ Haight repressed it) self-titled, genre-melding debut album.

you can read VTECH’s account of the night here

*performance photos are courtesy of Azul213 for Mochilla*

I was able to catch up with Mr. Verocai at the afterparty for a few moments…

No estaba pensando nada! Estaba en las nubes, todavia estoy en las nubes. Estoy muy, muy honrado y agradecido por todo esto.

What did you think when you were contacted to be a part of this series of concerts?

I felt very honored and humbled to be chosen to be part of this series of shows along with composers of such talent.

What do you think of the way a new generation has discovered and embraced your music? I’m talking about a musical generation spearheaded by Madlib and DOOM and so on.

Again, I feel very honored that my music is recieved in such a way by a younger generation of talent. It suprises me that something I made so many years ago is recieved in such a way.

This was your first concert in Los Angeles correct?

Yes, yes. My first show in Los Angeles.

What were you thinking while you were onstage playing your music?

What I thought? What could I think? I wasn’t thinking anything! I was in the clouds, I still am in the clouds. I’m very, very honored and appreciative for all this.

“everything i said was pretty on point aside from calling her whore.. she was just doing her job.. a little too well.”

if you actually want a mix by someone who knows what the hell they’re doing, Daddy Kev of Low End Theory/Alpha Pup fame just dropped the first of what will be a monthly series of Low End Theory podcasts

Episode 1: Daddy Kev w/ Samiyam

each month a different Low End resident DJ will man the mix with a special guest. I expect these to be consistently dope as hell so I highly recommend you guys to fuck with this from the start.
